TYNESIDE RAPIST ROBERT GREEN SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR VIOLENT ATTACK
A man identified as Robert Green, aged 30, has been handed down a substantial prison sentence of 14 years after being convicted of a brutal and predatory sexual assault on a teenage girl in the Tyneside area. The court proceedings revealed that Green had denied all charges, which included the charge of rape, but the jury at Newcastle Crown Court found him guilty beyond reasonable doubt. The incident came to light after the teenage victim sought medical assistance at a hospital in Tyneside. During her visit, a nurse who attended to her became suspicious and raised concerns about the nature of her injuries and the circumstances surrounding her. This intervention played a crucial role in initiating the investigation that ultimately led to Green’s arrest and conviction.
Following his sentencing, Green was also ordered to serve an additional four years on extended licence once he is released from prison. Furthermore, he is required to sign the sex offender register for the rest of his life, a measure aimed at monitoring his activities and preventing further offenses.
Judge Gavin Doig publicly commended the nurse for her timely and courageous intervention, as well as the victim for her bravery in reporting the assault to the authorities. During the sentencing hearing, the victim’s statement was read aloud, in which she expressed ongoing fear of Green and disclosed that her trust in men had been severely damaged by his actions.
Throughout the proceedings, Green, who appeared via video link from HMP Durham, displayed disruptive behavior. He was seen gesturing violently, shouting, and laughing inappropriately during the court session, which underscored his defiance and lack of remorse.
Judge Doig described Green as a “dangerous” individual, emphasizing that he posed a “high risk of serious harm” to others. The court was informed that Green, who has no fixed address, has a lengthy criminal record comprising 15 convictions for 31 separate offenses. His past offenses include multiple episodes of serious violence, for which he has previously served time in prison. The judge’s remarks highlighted the ongoing threat Green represents to the community in Tyneside.
