ROBERT GREEN FROM CHADWELL ST MARYS SENTENCED FOR INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN AND ADULT WOMAN

In May 2003, a disturbing case emerged involving Robert Green, a 52-year-old former bus driver residing in Chadwell St Marys, who was found guilty of creating and possessing indecent images involving minors and an adult woman. The court heard that Green used his personal computer at his home to manipulate photographs by superimposing images of two young girls aged 12 and 13, along with an adult woman, onto the bodies of other individuals. This act of digital manipulation was carried out with the intent of creating indecent pseudo-photographs, a crime that has serious legal and moral implications.

Green's illicit activities came to light when one of his victims discovered printed copies of these disturbing images. The print-outs were part of the evidence seized by police during a search of Green’s residence on Ingleby Road in Chadwell St Marys. Authorities also confiscated his computer and other related items, which were later examined as part of the investigation.

During police interviews, Green admitted to the creation of these images. The court was informed that he had found software approximately a year prior, which enabled him to produce such images. Green claimed that his motivation was solely for personal amusement, asserting that he had no intention of sharing or distributing the images to others. His guilty plea was entered for the offence of making indecent pseudo-photographs of a child, with the acts taking place between March of the previous year and the current year.

Prosecutor Prabhjot Virdi highlighted Green’s admission, stating, “He (Green) said he had about a year ago found some software which allowed him to create these photos. He stated he had only done so for his own amusement and no one else was involved nor did he intend to circulate them in any way.”

Green’s defense lawyer, Kate Blackburn, acknowledged the impact of the incident on her client, noting that Green had lost his employment as a result. She emphasized that Green maintained the act was a one-time occurrence and that only this material was found on his devices. Blackburn added, “It’s clear the defendant has said it was a one-off. This was the only material found of this nature. He does accept how serious these offences are. He says they were not for distribution and there’s no suggestion that they were. He thought he had printed off the images and disposed of them. He feels extremely bad at what his family is going through and he has expressed regret.”

Despite these assurances, Judge Lockhart expressed concern about the potential harm caused by Green’s actions. The judge stated, “My concern is whether other people have been prejudiced or damaged by your activities. I’m prepared to accept no approach had been made to any child in this situation nor was any intended, but your carelessness is an example of how this sort of activity can create real problems for yourself and your family.”

As part of his sentence, Green was ordered to complete a three-year community rehabilitation order. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of five years, reflecting the gravity of his offences and the potential risk posed by such conduct.
