ROBERT FALCONBRIDGE SCANDAL SHOCKS DALBEATTIE AND KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbrightshire, Robert Falconbridge, a 44-year-old sex offender, has been linked to a serious criminal investigation involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The incident came to light in August when police executed a search warrant at Falconbridge's mother’s residence in Kirkcudbrightshire, leading to the discovery of thousands of illicit images and videos.During the raid, authorities uncovered a staggering collection of 11,367 indecent still images and 280 video clips, some of which were classified at the most severe end of the scale used to grade such material. The images and videos were stored across multiple devices, including a laptop and a personal computer, which Falconbridge’s mother handed over to the police. These devices contained a significant amount of illicit content, raising serious concerns about the extent of his activities.
It was revealed that Falconbridge had previously accessed the internet at his mother’s home, where he collected and stored these illegal images. Despite his efforts to deny involvement, he ultimately pleaded guilty to three charges related to child pornography when he appeared before the High Court in Glasgow. The court was informed that Falconbridge refused to cooperate with police during questioning, which resulted in his mother being detained in custody for a night, despite her claims of ignorance regarding her son’s activities.
His mother, a woman in her 70s, maintained that she was unaware of the nature of the content stored on her devices. She confirmed that her son had used her computers to access the internet, but she insisted she had no knowledge of the illegal material. Nevertheless, she handed in additional devices, including a laptop and a computer, which contained further incriminating evidence.
Falconbridge’s criminal history is extensive. It was disclosed during the proceedings that he is already on the sex offenders register for life, having previously been convicted of similar offences, including a sexual assault on a young boy. His past convictions have marked him as a repeat offender, and the current charges are expected to result in a lengthy prison sentence when he appears again in court next month.
The investigation into Falconbridge’s activities began earlier this year. In January, police conducted a search at his mother’s home in Dalbeattie, where Falconbridge and his mother were present. Prosecutor Bill McVicar explained that Falconbridge spent considerable time at her residence, during which he accessed the internet and downloaded the illicit material. Simultaneously, authorities carried out a similar search at Falconbridge’s own home in Kirkcudbright, uncovering additional evidence of his involvement in the possession of indecent images.
Both Falconbridge and his mother were detained in August following the discovery of the material. The prosecutor emphasized that while Falconbridge’s mother denied any knowledge of the content, she acknowledged her son’s internet activity at her home. Falconbridge, however, made no comment to police during the investigation. The case has been adjourned, with Falconbridge remanded in custody and a sentencing hearing scheduled for 28 November at the High Court in Edinburgh, where he faces the prospect of a significant prison term for his crimes.
