ABERCARN PAEDOPHILE ROBERT DIXON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND SEXUAL ABUSE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Abercarn, Robert Dixon, a 43-year-old factory supervisor, was sentenced to four years in prison at Cardiff Crown Court for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a girl under the age of 14 and possession of a vast collection of indecent images of children.Authorities acting on a tip seized Dixon's computer, which revealed a staggering collection of over 5,000 child pornography images. These images included some of the most severe categories of indecency, and among them were photographs of the young girl he had abused. The severity of the material found was described as 'quite shocking' by prosecutor Susan Ferrier.
Robert Dixon, who resides on Cae Gordon Street in Abercarn, faced multiple charges, including causing a child to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault, and possession of indecent photographs of children. During the court proceedings, Dixon admitted to 17 charges related to his criminal conduct.
Judge Patrick Curran delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the gravity of Dixon's actions. He stated, “He repeatedly sexually abused the child. The actual results of what you have done to the child’s life are incalculable.” The judge also ordered Dixon to register as a sex offender for life and imposed a lifelong ban on working with children.
The case came to light after the young girl, who was under 14 at the time, confided in a school friend about the abuse. The note was passed to a teacher, which prompted an investigation by the police. During police interviews, the girl recounted her experiences of being repeatedly abused by Dixon. She described how he would tell her not to tell anyone, and how he sometimes forced her to wear adult underwear and took sexual photographs of her in compromising poses.
When police arrested Dixon, he initially denied any wrongdoing, describing the situation as “a bombshell.” However, the evidence was overwhelming. The girl was interviewed on video, providing detailed accounts of her abuse, which left her visibly upset. During the police interview, Dixon broke down and acknowledged that the images found on his computer were “vile.”
His defense attorney, Eugene Egan, stated that Dixon had pleaded guilty and had not denied any of the charges. Egan also mentioned that Dixon claimed none of the photographs had been distributed. The court heard that Dixon had a troubled past, including attempts at self-harm and a lack of personality development as a young man. Dixon expressed remorse, apologizing to everyone affected and acknowledging his guilt.
The court's decision reflects the seriousness of Dixon’s crimes, and the community of Abercarn is left to grapple with the impact of this disturbing case. The girl involved continues to struggle emotionally, and the case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable children.
