HOMELESS MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL DRUG-FUELLED ATTACK ON WOMAN
A court has heard that a violent individual, under the influence of drugs, carried out an attack on a woman from Calderdale.Robert Allen, a 41-year-old homeless man, was acquitted of sexual charges by a jury.
However, following a trial at Bradford Crown Court in March, he was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to the woman and has subsequently received a six-year prison sentence.
The court was told that the assault occurred last summer.
Prosecutor Nick Adlington informed the court on Monday that Allen had prior convictions for violence against women and had served time in 2016 for a wounding offence.
During the hearing, it was described how Allen attacked the woman—whose identity is protected—using various objects, including a rock, a brick, a stick, or a bar.
The court revealed that the woman sustained serious injuries to her face, such as the loss of teeth, along with injuries to her spine, from being struck while lying on the ground.
Judge Colin Burn ruled that Allen, who has no fixed address, should be sentenced as a dangerous individual.
As a result, he received an additional four-year extended license period on top of his six-year prison sentence.
Over a prison video link, the judge told Allen, “She has physically recovered, but it’s clear she continues to suffer mental trauma from the assault on her,” adding, “It was a brutal attack.”
