Middlesbrough Domestic Abuser
Robbie Gibson, aged 20, engaged in aggressive and controlling conduct toward his former partner. His abusive actions included physically assaulting her multiple times, such as punching her to the ground and striking her repeatedly with a metal rod. Additionally, he invaded her privacy by accessing her phone and social media platforms to exert control. When she refused to give him money for cannabis, Gibson escalated his violence by mounting her and attempting to bite her. During his arrest, he falsely claimed that she had stabbed him with a knife, hit him with a hammer—necessitating surgery—and threatened to kill him. After being taken into custody, Gibson made 119 phone calls to his ex-girlfriend. He later made unfounded allegations to the police, falsely asserting that she was the aggressor, and left threatening letters from prison containing messages like 'I'll get your kids taken off you' and 'I'm coming for everyone.' Despite being remanded, Gibson continued his threatening behavior through sinister correspondence, with remarks such as 'Once I'm out I'll cripple her. I swear deep down' and 'all of my dark thoughts are going to turn into reality.' He pleaded guilty to charges of controlling or coercive behavior, perverting the course of justice, and intimidating witnesses. The court described him as dangerous, manipulative, and dishonest, emphasizing the severe emotional toll on his victim, who felt 'nervous, anxious and scared on a regular basis.' Ultimately, Gibson was sentenced to nearly four years in prison, amounting to three years and eight months.
