Grangemouth Rapist
A young man named Riley Kirk, aged 20, has been handed down an eight-year prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses committed in the areas of Grangemouth and West Lothian. The case revealed a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior that spanned several years, beginning when Kirk was just 14 years old and continuing until he was nearly 18.

Throughout the court proceedings, it was detailed that Kirk had sexually assaulted three different girls at various addresses within Grangemouth. These assaults included two instances where the victims were asleep at the time, with Kirk claiming he must have been asleep during those incidents, a defense that the court found unconvincing. The severity of his actions was further underscored by the fact that he repeatedly targeted the same victims, demonstrating a troubling pattern of predatory behavior.

In addition to these assaults in Grangemouth, Kirk committed an additional attack on a 16-year-old girl at a residence in West Lothian. This particular incident occurred after Kirk had been granted bail, a decision that the court considered highly concerning. The judge, Lord Harrower, expressed significant alarm over the fact that Kirk, after being released on bail, went on to commit a further rape against a vulnerable young girl he had only recently met. This act added to the gravity of his crimes and highlighted the risks associated with his early release.

During the trial, Kirk was found guilty of six charges, including rape and sexual assault. He had denied all allegations, but the evidence presented was sufficient for conviction. His first known offense took place in October 2019, when he raped a 14-year-old girl at an address in Grangemouth. Over the next few years, he continued his offending, raping a 17-year-old girl at a house in Grangemouth in November 2021, and assaulting another victim between November and December of the same year. His criminal activity escalated in mid-2022, when he raped another 17-year-old girl on multiple occasions.

Following his arrest and subsequent bail in December 2022, Kirk's offending did not cease. In January 2023, he attacked and raped a 16-year-old girl in East Calder, an incident that further demonstrated his dangerous and persistent behavior. The court took into account his age at the time of the offenses and the potential for rehabilitation, with the defense emphasizing his youth. Nonetheless, the judge emphasized the seriousness of his crimes and the need for a strong custodial sentence.

As part of his sentence, Kirk was also ordered to be under supervision for three years after his release and to remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. Detective Constable Marc Lunn commented on the case, stating that Kirk is now facing the consequences of his actions, made possible by the victims who bravely reported him. He urged other victims of sexual crimes to come forward, assuring the public that law enforcement remains committed to thoroughly investigating such offenses and bringing offenders to justice.
