--------------------------- 2025-08-01 00:05: A jury at Plymouth Crown Court has found Ricky Stubberfield, a 31-year-old man from Walnut Gardens, guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses.
The verdict includes 23 convictions out of 26 charges, encompassing numerous counts of rape and sexual assault of women and teenage girls as young as 16.
The offenses committed by Stubberfield spanned from December 23, 2013, when he was approximately 20 years old, to June 4, 2024.
Some of these crimes took place at Essex Smiles, a teeth-whitening and tanning salon on Mutley Plain, which Stubberfield was co-owner and manager of at the time.
This business has since changed ownership and relocated.
The trial revealed that victims only came forward after reading initial court reports, and the allegations included nine counts of rape, ten counts of sexual assault, five counts of assault by penetration, as well as charges of indecent exposure and making indecent images of a child.
None of the victims can be publicly identified for legal reasons.
The jury was unable to reach verdicts on three counts, which will lie on file.
The judge thanked the jury for their diligent service and ordered a pre-sentence report along with a dangerousness assessment.
Stubberfield was remanded into custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 21, 2025.
