EX-TAXI DRIVER RICHARD PASSWAY JAILED AGAIN FOR SEX ABUSE OFFENSES
A Swindon man, Richard Passway, also known as Rick, has been sentenced to another seven and a half years in prison for sexual offences after a new victim came forward.Passway was already serving a 29-year prison sentence for historic sex crimes against children, with the judge at Oxford Crown Court declaring that he would spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Recently, he received a concurrent sentence for indecently assaulting a nine-year-old girl in Fairford during the late 1980s.
Prosecutor Giles Nelson described how the victim, now in her forties, contacted Gloucestershire Police just weeks after Passway's previous sentencing.
The girl had been staying with Passway and his then-wife in Fairford arranged by social services and a charitable organization.
Nelson explained that although the assault was not orchestrated by Passway himself, it was initiated by his wife prior to their marriage.
The victim recounted that Passway entered the bathroom and comforted her by placing his hand in the bathwater, then later came into her bedroom to stroke her legs to the top of her thigh, which caused her pain and discomfort.
He warned her that telling anyone would be our secret.
She was then told to come downstairs, with Passway putting her on his shoulders when she was naked.
Her mother was informed of the incident when she confided in her mother after returning home.
The police recorded Passway's dismissive response when questioned about the allegations, claiming he spent time with the children doing nice things and taking them to see animals.
The court heard that Passway had been convicted last year of 14 indecent assaults, six counts of rape, and two counts of indecency with a child through two juries in Oxford.
Judge Ian Lawrie KC acknowledged that Passway's current lengthy sentence would overshadow the new one, which Judge Lawrie described as delayed given Passway's ongoing custody.
The sentencing included seven and a half years in prison, plus one year on license, along with a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, registration as a sex offender, and a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
