RICHARD HEWITT OF STANTON HILL SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN NOTTINGHAM
In a case that has shocked the local community of Stanton Hill, Nottinghamshire, Richard Hewitt, aged 47, has been sentenced to prison for the sexual assault of a young girl dating back to 2007. The incident, which occurred over a decade ago, came to light only recently, leading to Hewitt's arrest and subsequent conviction. On Friday, June 2, 2017, Nottingham Crown Court heard how Hewitt pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting a child. The court sentenced him to four years and six months behind bars for his crimes. The case was brought to justice after the victim, now 16 years old, identified Hewitt as her attacker during an investigation that was initiated earlier that year.
It was on Monday, January 30, 2017, that Nottinghamshire Police received a report concerning a rape that had taken place ten years earlier. The victim, who was only six years old at the time of the assault, was able to recognize Hewitt, which led to his swift arrest. Following his detention, Hewitt was interviewed by authorities and formally charged with one count of child rape and one count of sexual assault against a minor under the age of 13.
The court proceedings revealed that Hewitt had been a trusted figure in the girl’s life at the time of the assault. He was responsible for looking after her, which he exploited to commit his crimes. The abuse was carried out while Hewitt was in a position of authority and trust, making the betrayal even more profound.
As part of his sentence, Hewitt was placed on the sex offenders register for life. Additionally, he was issued with a sexual harm prevention order that prohibits him from contacting the victim, attending any school premises, or residing with any girl under the age of 16. These measures are intended to prevent any further harm and to protect the community from potential future offenses.
