NORFOLK MAN WHO STRANGLED EX-PARTNER SPARED JAIL
A man who grabbed his ex-partner by the throat until she lost consciousness and punched her in the head in her own home was sentenced to an 18-month community order.Richard Evans, who had been in a relationship with the victim for about 12 years and has children with her, attacked her in March 2025.
The court heard he admitted intentional strangulation, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour between January 2013 and March 2025.
The victim suffered from an erosion of self-esteem, anxiety, and a large lump on her head, and managed to drive to a friend's for help.
Evans was banned from contacting her indefinitely and required to complete rehabilitation.
The sentencing recognized his time in custody and efforts to improve his mental health, but emphasized the lasting impact on the victim.
