A man from North Yorkshire, specifically from the town of Pickering, has been handed a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of multiple sexual assaults. Richard David Pennock, aged 44 and residing in Undercliffe, Pickering, was found guilty of five separate counts of sexual assault during a trial that concluded on December 20 of the previous year. The sentencing took place at York Crown Court on Wednesday, February 5, marking a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for the victim involved.

Details of the case reveal that the allegations against Pennock first came to light in March 2022, when the incident was reported to North Yorkshire Police. An extensive investigation was launched by the Scarborough and Ryedale Safeguarding Investigation Team, who meticulously gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses to build a comprehensive case against him. Despite Pennock’s persistent denials of the charges, the evidence presented during the trial was compelling enough to establish his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a 15-year restraining order against Pennock, effectively barring him from approaching or contacting the victim in any way. This measure aims to provide ongoing protection and prevent any further harm. Detective Sergeant Laura Carroll, who was part of the investigative team, publicly commended the bravery of the victim for coming forward and providing testimony despite the trauma involved.
