ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT JOURNALIST TO STAND TRIAL FOR STALKING IN CHILD ABDUCTION CASE
A journalist named Richard Carvath is set to face a trial accused of stalking a man involved in a child abduction case. The official charge states that Carvath followed and took pictures of the man while he was out with his family, and branded him a paedophile.
Additionally, he is alleged to have contacted the police, claiming that the man was a child sex abuser.
Carvath, aged 42 and residing on Marlborough Road in Royal Wootton Bassett, pleaded not guilty to charges of stalking involving serious alarm or distress. The campaign of harassment supposedly occurred between early March 2017 and June 4, 2019.
The accusations include Carvath writing derogatory online comments, making allegations about the man being a paedophile, locating his home, attending it to photograph him and his family, and contacting police in Cornwall with allegations against the man.
Prosecutor Colin Meeke indicated that a trial is scheduled for late September at Exeter Crown Court.
During the hearing at Swindon Crown Court, Carvath stated that the particulars of the charge had changed since his previous appearance before magistrates, but the judge clarified that the charge remained the same, only with amended details.
He then entered his plea.
The case has been adjourned, and Carvath has been released on bail with conditions not to contact the complainant or enter Devon.
