TONNA MAN JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
Rhys Hobbs, aged 46 and from Tonna, received a sentence of eight years imprisonment after admitting guilt to manslaughter in connection with the death of his former partner, Andrea Lewis.
The court was informed that on 30 January, Andrea Lewis, aged 51, was found dead at a residence on Fairyland Road, Tonna, exhibiting multiple injuries, including wounds to her skull and torso.
Hobbs had been part of a violent and prolonged assault on her that took place following a drunken argument.
It was revealed during the hearing that Ms Lewis had been stamped on during the attack and was covered in bruises and a black eye in the weeks prior to her death, although she maintained she had simply fallen.
Judge Keith Thomas stated that Lewis had been subjected to control and frequent assault by Hobbs, who attacked her at his home, dragging her outside while she was half-dressed, and left her to die.
The court described the assault as both sustained and violent, concluding that Hobbs's conduct was directly responsible for her death.
Following the sentencing, a police official highlighted that Ms Lewis was a victim of domestic abuse, which ultimately caused her demise.
