COUPLE BANNED FROM KEEPING DOGS AFTER STARVING HUSKY TO SKIN AND BONE
Deborah Duncan and Reece Gordon, a couple originally from Aberdeen, were convicted in 2025 of causing unnecessary suffering to their pet husky, Kyro. The dog was found to be in a severely emaciated state, with veterinary evidence showing he had a foreign body in his stomach requiring emergency surgery.
Kyro weighed just 14kg, significantly less than the normal 22kg for his breed, and exhibited visible ribs, spine, and pelvic bones, indicating long-term malnutrition.
Deborah Duncan admitted that Kyro had not eaten for several days and had not had water for four days.
The Scottish SPCA inspector commented on the severity of Kyro’s condition, which could not be explained solely by recent illness or stomach issues, implying prolonged neglect.
The couple's delay in seeking veterinary help resulted in prolonged suffering.
The court sentenced Reece Gordon to 96 hours of unpaid community work and placed him under a 12-month supervision order.
Additionally, they were banned from keeping dogs for 36 months, expiring July 2028.
Deborah Duncan was also banned from keeping dogs for the same period.
The case received coverage from the Scottish SPCA and local news outlets.
