RAYMOND WINALL FROM MICHELDEVER SENTENCED IN WINCHESTER FOR SEX OFFENCE AND UNPAID WORK ORDER
In a recent development in a case that has garnered significant attention, Raymond Winall, a man with ties to Micheldever, has been subjected to a court-ordered community service after a conviction related to a sexual offence involving a teenage boy.The incident, which took place in August 2005, led to a lengthy legal process culminating in a sentencing that emphasizes both punishment and the importance of compliance with court-mandated treatment programs.
Winall, who previously worked as a school laboratory technician, was found guilty of encouraging a minor to perform a sex act, although he was acquitted of actual sexual activity and of performing a sex act in front of the boy.
The court proceedings revealed that the youth, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, had visited Winall’s residence in Northbrook, Micheldever, to assist with gardening tasks.
During this visit, Winall, who was employed at The Westgate School at the time, offered the boy videos as a reward for his help.
According to the evidence presented during the three-day trial held in August at Winchester Crown Court, Winall showed the boy pornographic videos, claiming they were educational.
While watching these videos, Winall allegedly encouraged the teenager to perform a sex act on himself.
The boy later confided in his parents, which led to Winall’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
During the trial, Winall maintained that his intentions were innocent, asserting that he believed the videos to be educational and that he was concerned about the boy’s developing relationship with a girl.
Despite his claims, the jury found that Winall had deliberately attempted to persuade the minor to engage in a sexual act.
In September 2006, Winall was initially sentenced to a three-year community order, which included a five-year registration on the sex offenders’ register and an indefinite ban from working with children.
However, during a hearing last Friday, Winchester Crown Court revoked the original community order due to Winall’s failure to participate properly in the sex offenders’ treatment program, which he had refused to engage with because of his continued denial of the offence.
Judge Andrew Barnett, presiding over the case, ordered Winall to complete 140 hours of unpaid work within the next year.
The judge emphasized that any breach of this new order would result in the possibility of imprisonment.
The other conditions of his original sentence remain in effect, serving as a reminder of the serious nature of the offence and the court’s commitment to ensuring public safety.
