RAYMOND DE VRIES FROM STURMINSTER NEWTON SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN DORSET

In March 2017, a man from Sturminster Newton, Dorset, was handed down a severe prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving children. Raymond Marco De Vries faced the court to answer for a disturbing array of crimes, which included 14 counts of sexual misconduct against minors, some of whom were under the age of 13.

De Vries pleaded guilty to these charges, which encompassed inciting a child to engage in penetrative sexual acts, engaging in sexual activities with two children under 13, and the creation and distribution of indecent images of children. The court also heard that he possessed a manual that provided instructions on how to groom and manipulate children for sexual purposes. It is important to note that possession of such a manual has been illegal in the UK since 2015, reflecting the seriousness with which authorities treat such materials.

The sentencing took place at Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday, March 20. The judge sentenced De Vries to a total of 11 years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions even after his release.

The case came to light following a police raid in June of the previous year. Dorset Police executed a warrant at De Vries’s residence, where he voluntarily pointed out that there was computer equipment of interest to investigators. During a detailed police interview, De Vries admitted to having a preference for young girls aged between eight and twelve.

Authorities conducted an extensive examination of his electronic devices, which proved to be a lengthy process due to the large volume of equipment and digital content involved. The investigation uncovered a staggering amount of illegal material, including 2,258 Category A indecent images of children—the most serious classification—along with 1,969 Category B images and an alarming 27,201 Category C images. Further analysis revealed 619 prohibited images and 42 images depicting extreme pornography.

In addition to the digital evidence, investigators found tangible proof of sexual activity involving De Vries and minors, further cementing the gravity of his crimes. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and bring offenders like De Vries to justice, ensuring the safety and protection of vulnerable children in Dorset and beyond.
