Ravelle Melbourne, 32, fractured his partner's jaw and threw a coffee table at her.
The victim suffered a broken jaw, requiring screws to be inserted and some teeth removed, and was left in constant pain with nightmares about the assault.
Melbourne repeatedly assaulted his partner over the course of several incidents, including pushing her onto a bed, hitting her with a coffee table, throwing a broken table top and a hoover, and slapping and kicking her to the ribs.
The final attack occurred on September 12, when Melbourne threw a baby gate at her head and shut the curtains to prevent her from leaving.
He was arrested after police arrived, and later pleaded guilty to wounding and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was sentenced to five years and three months imprisonment, with a two-year extended licence period, and was issued a 10-year restraining order.
The court heard he has no previous convictions.
The victim provided a personal statement expressing the emotional and physical toll of the abuse.
