LEYTONSTONE: DOG ABUSER FAILED TO TREAT INJURED PET
A SERIAL dog abuser has been banned from owning any animal for seven years.Ramael Laird, 19, of Lea Hall Gardens, Leyton, pleaded guilty to three counts of failing to protect his dog, Delux, from being injured in a spat with another dog and for not taking it to the vets for treatment.
Claims that he abandoned a dark brindle and white bitch at Fred Wigg Tower, in Montague Road, Leytonstone, and failed to care for sores on its hip were dropped.
Allegations of causing unnecessary suffering to another brindle and white bitch by failing to provide it with adequate nutrition in West Street, Leytonstone, were also waived.
On October 4 last year, police observed Laird with a puppy and Delux at an address in Leytonstone.
Delux was examined by a vet for the RSPCA, revealing bite marks around the neck from about four months prior, likely from a fight with another dog.
The dog also had scars on its face and neck, thought to be recent.
Laird initially claimed he lost the dog for two or three months and denied dog fighting, though he was unsure of recent injuries.
He explained that he was throwing sticks to Delux and a friend's dog and that a fight ensued, which he separated immediately.
He did not take the dog to the vet due to financial constraints.
He expressed remorse and is reflecting on his actions.
The court, with Bench chairman Carl Stamp, banned Laird from owning an animal for seven years and sentenced him to five months' imprisonment for each count, to run concurrently with his current four-year jail term.
