NORTH LONDON SEX ATTACKER SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS
A dangerous sex attacker who assaulted a woman in north London has been convicted and sentenced.Radu-Ionut Vilculescu, aged 26, followed a woman and attempted to engage her in conversation as she walked alone along Kentish Town Road in the early hours.
He then pushed her against a parked van and sexually assaulted her before dragging her into a garden and attempting to rape her.
The victim, who was in her 30s, managed to escape after she took out her phone to call for help, leaving Vilculescu who ran off in an unknown direction.
The woman sustained bruising but was not seriously injured.
Following a CCTV appeal, detectives identified Vilculescu, who was arrested on February 20 and charged.
He was found guilty of attempted rape at Blackfriars Crown Court on July 14 and was sentenced to five years in prison.
The court described him as a 'dangerous' offender, emphasizing that the attack was calculated and targeted a vulnerable woman.
The police and court highlighted the bravery of the victim for preventing further harm.
