HULL MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING PARTNER THAT LED TO BRAIN TUMOUR
Phillip Fairfield, 42, admitted in court assault causing actual bodily harm in Beverley on May 28, 2021.The pair met in 2020 and decided to self-isolate together in the first lockdown.
The woman, 36, sustained serious head injuries, including a dislocated jaw which required hospital treatment, after she was assaulted in May 2021.
She states: "He punched me on the temple to the floor and then kicked me while I was down on my jaw.
That was the final straw and I believe my neighbour saved my life by reporting this.
If she wasn't there I'd probably still be in that relationship." She was diagnosed with a meningioma tumour to the brain following the incident, causing symptoms like dullness, aches, and diminished eyesight.
Fairfield was sentenced to six months behind bars, but the victim felt it was too short, fearing further injury and possible coma from a hit to the temple.
The woman recounted previous assaults, including two in February 2021, with police statements retracted under pressure from Fairfield.
She also highlighted his controlling behaviour beginning around August, including calling her names, insults, and substance abuse issues.
Fairfax's background was checked via Claire's Law, but she expressed regret that she didn't fully know his history, which culminated in the violent assault that led to her diagnosis.
