Stretford Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the community of Stretford and the wider Greater Manchester area, Philip Tilston, aged 42, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed over a span of more than a decade. The crimes, which involved the abuse of two young girls and a teenage babysitter, date back to the late 1980s and early 1990s, and have left a lasting impact on the victims and their families.

Tilston's conviction was secured following a trial held in November, during which evidence was presented that detailed his repeated indecent assaults on two girls, now aged 22 and 21, respectively. These assaults took place regularly between 1988 and 1992, when the victims were children and teenagers. The court also heard about an incident involving a 14-year-old girl who was babysitting Tilston’s daughters at the time. During this encounter, Tilston forcibly engaged with the girl, kissing her and attempting to touch her inappropriately, actions that left her terrified and distressed.

At Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, Judge Adrian Smith delivered the sentence, describing the offenses as a series of depraved and serious sexual crimes committed against vulnerable young girls. The judge emphasized the gravity of the case, noting the cruelty and predatory nature of Tilston’s actions. He recounted the moment when Tilston forced the teenage babysitter onto his sofa, kissed her, and tried to touch her, highlighting her fear during the ordeal.

Judge Smith stated, “These offences represent a series of depraved and serious sexual offences committed against three young girls. Your depravity knew no end.” The court sentenced Tilston to serve four and a half years for eight counts of indecently assaulting one girl, an additional four and a half years for seven counts of indecently assaulting the second girl, and a further 12 months for the assault on the babysitter. These sentences are to be served consecutively, reflecting the severity and multiplicity of his crimes.

Furthermore, Tilston has been permanently barred from working with children, a measure intended to protect others from potential harm. Throughout the sentencing, Tilston showed no visible reaction as he was taken into custody, remaining silent in the face of the court’s judgment. The case has garnered significant attention in the local community, highlighting the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse and the ongoing need for vigilance and safeguarding in society.
