PHILIP LOWRY FROM THURLES: CHILD SEX OFFENDER INVOLVED IN SHOCKING ABUSE CASE IN CO TIPPERARY
The identity of Philip Lowry, a man closely related to the well-known Irish politician Michael Lowry, has been officially disclosed following a series of disturbing criminal convictions.Lowry, aged 52 and residing in Holy Cross, Thurles, County Tipperary, was previously convicted in November 2002 on seven separate counts of sexual assault involving young girls aged between six and eight years old.
These assaults took place during sports sessions, where he was working as a coach within a combined GAA and FAS scheme at local schools.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Lowry engaged in inappropriate and sexually abusive conduct with the young victims.
The court heard that he would manipulate the children into placing their hands into his pockets, where he would touch his genitals for sexual gratification.
The victims, some of whom have since managed to recover from the trauma, endured significant emotional distress as a result of his actions.
Lowry was sentenced to serve a total of one year in Curragh prison for his crimes.
The sentences for each of the seven counts were to run concurrently, with three months of the sentence suspended.
Additionally, the court mandated that Lowry be registered as a sex offender under the provisions of the 2001 Sexual Offences Act, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring.
At the time of his conviction, Lowry was not publicly named due to pending charges.
However, with the Irish Director of Public Prosecutions deciding not to pursue further legal action, his identity has now been officially confirmed.
