PETER WOOD AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULT IN CUMBRIA
In a recent and disturbing case that has shaken the community in Cumbria, a man from Silloth has been sentenced to prison following his admission to sexually assaulting a child.Peter Wood, aged 53 and residing at Green Row in Silloth, was brought before Carlisle Crown Court where he received a two-year jail term after confessing to his crime.
The assault reportedly took place in June, with the court being informed of the details surrounding the incident.
During the proceedings, Wood’s legal representative highlighted that alcohol abuse appeared to be a significant underlying factor contributing to his offending behavior, which may have impaired his judgment at the time.
Following his guilty plea, Judge Richard Archer issued additional sanctions alongside his prison sentence.
Wood is now required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure aimed at safeguarding the community.
Furthermore, a sexual harm prevention order was put in place for the same period, restricting Wood’s activities and interactions to prevent future offenses.
The investigation and subsequent conviction were overseen by officers from the Carlisle & Wigton Criminal Investigation Department.
Temporary Detective Constable Georgia Skelton commented on the case, stating, “We are pleased that we have been able to secure a conviction in this case.
Peter Wood held no regard for the impact his actions would have on the victim when he committed this offence.” She also extended her gratitude towards the brave individual who reported the incident, noting, “I would like to thank the victim for their bravery in reporting what happened to them and assisting our investigation.” The authorities reiterated their commitment to justice and emphasized that support systems are in place for victims of sexual offenses.
They urged anyone suffering in silence to reach out for help, assuring that trusted partner agencies are available to provide appropriate care and assistance.
This case underscores the ongoing importance of vigilance and community cooperation in tackling sexual crimes and protecting vulnerable individuals across Cumbria.
