PETER WILSON OF MOUNSTORREL SENTENCED FOR ABUSING FOUR CHILDREN IN LEICESTER

In October 2018, a deeply disturbing case unfolded involving Peter Wilson, a man from Mounstorrel, who was convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of four children, including his own daughter. The court proceedings revealed a long history of abuse spanning over a decade, with Wilson showing no visible remorse as he was sentenced for his actions.

Wilson, aged 59 and employed as a welder, faced a jury at Leicester Crown Court where he was found guilty of ten counts of indecent assault. Despite his denial of the charges, the jury unanimously agreed on his guilt after several days of testimony and evidence presentation. The victims, who ranged in age from young children to teenagers, courageously testified about the abuse they endured at the hands of Wilson during various periods from 1991 to 2001.

One of the most poignant moments in the trial was the testimony of Natasha, Wilson’s daughter, who chose to waive her right to anonymity to confront her father directly. Her emotional victim impact statement was met with applause from the courtroom. Natasha, now 27, recounted her traumatic experiences, revealing that she was abused from the age of four. She described the profound effect the abuse had on her life and her strength in facing her abuser in court. Her words underscored the severity of Wilson’s crimes and the lasting damage inflicted upon her.

Judge Martin Hurst, presiding over the case, expressed his deep emotional response to the victims’ statements. He emphasized that it would be difficult for anyone not to be moved by their accounts of suffering. The judge acknowledged that the convictions had provided the victims with a sense of closure, allowing them to begin the process of moving forward.

During sentencing, Judge Hurst condemned Wilson’s actions, describing him as a “monster” to his victims. He detailed the nature of the abuse, including the fact that Natasha was extremely young and unaware of what was happening to her. The judge also highlighted other instances of abuse, such as a girl aged ten being indecently touched, a 16-year-old boy being sexually assaulted in a caravan, and another girl between six and nine years old being victimized.

Wilson’s criminal history was also discussed, revealing that he had previously stood trial for similar allegations involving a different girl. Although he was acquitted at that time, the girl later died from a drug overdose. The court imposed a sentence of 12 years in prison, with an additional one-year license period upon release. Furthermore, Wilson was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in effect indefinitely, and he was placed on the sex offender register for life. A restraining order was also issued, prohibiting any contact with his four victims in the future.

As Wilson was led from the courtroom, a mother of one of the victims shouted “rot in hell,” reflecting the outrage and disgust felt by those affected by his crimes. The court’s decision marked a significant step in delivering justice for the victims and holding Wilson accountable for his actions in Mounstorrel and Leicester.
