Croston Sexual Abuser
In September 2000, Peter McIntyre, a 45-year-old prison officer from Croston who worked at Garth jail in Preston, was sentenced to two years in prison for sexually abusing two young girls. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years during his sentencing at Preston Crown Court. McIntyre was convicted by a majority verdict on two counts of indecent assault. The court acquitted him of two additional indecent assault charges and one other charge, following directions from the trial judge.

The evidence presented to the jury indicated that the assaults took place when the girls were approximately ten years old. In his defense, McIntyre denied the allegations, claiming that no indecency had occurred and that the girls' claims were fabricated.
