In a disturbing revelation, Peter Mathieson, a man with a troubling criminal history, is currently employed as a playpark supervisor for East Dunbartonshire Council, despite his past offenses involving violence against women and children.Mathieson, aged 39 and residing in Auchinloch, Lanarkshire, holds a position within the council’s Street Sense unit, where he is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and safety of local playgrounds.
Critics and concerned members of the community have voiced their outrage, demanding that Mathieson be removed from his role.
They argue that his criminal record, which includes three separate convictions for child assaults and one for domestic abuse, makes his continued employment inappropriate and potentially dangerous.
Despite these serious allegations and convictions, he remains in a position of authority, with access to schools for tasks such as organizing cleaning and maintenance activities.
Legal documents reveal that Mathieson was subjected to a one-year non-harassment order and fined £135 in June of the previous year after admitting to aggressive behavior towards a woman at Airdrie Sheriff Court.
The court records further detail his violent past, including a conviction in February for assaulting three children aged between one and 13 years old, with incidents spanning from 2011 to 2018.
These assaults included pulling a girl’s hair, pinning her down, and shoving her into a dog cage—a particularly disturbing act that has garnered significant public concern.
Additional allegations include yanking a young child out of bed by the legs and attacking a toddler.
Despite the severity of these offenses, Mathieson was only sentenced to a community payback order, a relatively lenient punishment considering the nature of his crimes.
The community and advocacy groups continue to call for his removal from his current role, emphasizing the potential risk posed by his presence in environments frequented by children and families.
