FORMER TEACHER JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES

A former teacher has been jailed for four years and three months for historical child sex offences.

Peter MacKenzie Buckby, 44, of East Ayton, taught music in Scarborough and sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 16, North Yorkshire Police said.

He denied the charges but was convicted of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and engaging in sexual activity with a child following a trial at York Crown Court, where he was sentenced on Tuesday.

Det Con Suzanne Hall noted the victim had displayed exceptional bravery in coming forward and giving evidence.

The crimes were reported in 2022, but the offences had taken place several years earlier.
