PETER LEWIS FROM LLANGENNECH SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD RAPE SPREE IN SWANSEA
In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Llangennech and the wider Swansea area, Peter Lewis, aged 54, was convicted of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young girls over a span of more than 15 years. The court proceedings revealed the extent of Lewis's disturbing actions, which included multiple counts of rape and sexual assault against children under the age of 13.During the sentencing at Swansea Crown Court, the judge emphasized the dangerous nature of Lewis, describing him as a significant threat to the safety of young girls in the future. The court was told that an extended custodial sentence was essential to ensure public protection. The judge, Keith Thomas, made it clear that Lewis's pattern of abuse warranted a severe penalty, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Lewis, who resides in Tirgof, Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, faced a series of charges that included 15 counts of child rape, assault by penetration, sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and the production of indecent images of children. These charges stemmed from a trial where Lewis maintained his innocence, leading his victims to relive their traumatic experiences during court proceedings. The victims' statements painted a distressing picture of the long-lasting emotional and psychological scars inflicted upon them. Many described suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, sleep disturbances, and a profound loss of trust in others. One girl even recounted episodes of self-harm as a consequence of the abuse.
Throughout the case, police praised the bravery of the victims in coming forward and urged anyone who might have concerns about contact with Lewis—either past or present—to contact law enforcement authorities. The court heard that the abuse had a deeply damaging impact on the victims' mental health, with some struggling to cope with the aftermath of their experiences.
In addition to his prison sentence, Lewis was designated a registered sex offender for life and was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. The judge sentenced him to a total of 27 years, comprising 21 years in custody followed by a six-year extended license period. Lewis will be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his custodial term, but the decision to release him will ultimately rest with the Parole Board. The court's ruling underscores the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to society.
