PETER LANDER JONES CAUGHT IN VICTORIA PARK: SHOCKING INCIDENT AT MANCHESTER BURGER RESTAURANT

In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community, Peter Lander Jones, a 73-year-old convicted sex offender, was recently detained and sentenced after an alarming encounter in a Manchester restaurant. The incident took place at a Burger King located on Wilmslow Road, within the Victoria Park area, where Jones approached a young child in a manner that raised serious concerns about public safety.

According to court records, Jones pleaded guilty to breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order that had been previously imposed on him. The court proceedings revealed that in December, he engaged in conversation with a four-year-old boy while the child was accompanied by his father. Witnesses, including a probation officer, observed Jones speaking to the young boy, which prompted immediate concern and subsequent police intervention. The officer who witnessed the interaction reported that Jones deliberately approached the child in a public setting, despite the restrictions placed on him to prevent such contact.

Following his arrest, Jones was brought before Manchester Crown Court, where he was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for his actions. This incident is particularly troubling given Jones's extensive criminal history. In November 1999, he was convicted for following a 16-year-old boy into a McDonald's in Manchester city centre and attempting to solicit sexual acts in exchange for money. His sentence for that offense was three years and ten months. Additionally, Jones has a long record of sexual offences against young males, with over 30 convictions to his name.

His criminal record also includes a conviction for indecent assault on a 13-year-old boy, for which he was placed on probation. His pattern of offending led to multiple incarcerations, including a second jail term in May 2007, when he was sentenced to three years and eight months after breaching his order for the fifth time. In July 2010, Manchester magistrates imposed a further restriction, preventing him from communicating with children after he approached young girls in a church setting.

Manchester police and authorities have expressed their concern over Jones's blatant disregard for the orders designed to protect the public. Detective Inspector Debbie Conlon Houldershaw commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of the restrictions: “The order was put in place to protect the public and to prevent anyone else falling victim to Lander Jones. We have worked closely with probation to monitor this difficult individual.” She further stated, “The fact he flagrantly disregarded this order and deliberately approached a four-year-old boy in public shows that he remains a danger to the public. As a result, we feel fully justified in pursuing this case and hope that his return to jail provides some reassurance to the community.”
