RAPIST'S REGIME OF TERROR
A VILE rapist who subjected a terrified grandmother of 63 to a degrading ordeal in her own home has been jailed for life.Married Parkstone carpet fitter Peter Jarvis stood motionless in the dock as Judge Samuel Wiggs told him: "This is by far the worst case of rape upon an adult person that I have ever had to deal with." "You subjected her to great indignities and threatened her with a knife after you forced her into her own home." Sentencing Jarvis at Bournemouth Crown Court, Judge Wiggs detailed the sickening "regime of terror" suffered by the 63-year-old victim and added: "There is absolutely no reason to believe that you would not do the same thing again when at liberty." Swanage-born Jarvis, of Ravensdale Close, Parkstone, was found guilty of 10 horrific crimes during a trial in January.
He denied the offences.
The court heard he followed the pensioner to her Poole home before committing hideous offences over a period of an hour.
The crimes took place after he followed the woman from a bus stop in September 2004.
It was nine months before he was arrested.
Jarvis was arrested after an e-fit image appeared in the Daily Echo and was identified by a reader.
The court was told the attack has had a devastating effect on the victim, who has been forced to give up her job and move away from the address which has been her family home for many years.
Prosecutor Andy Houston said the woman is now nervous and has lost her confidence.
She is afraid to walk alone and is frightened of being followed.
The victim, who lives on her own, is scared of voices and noises at night, said Mr.
Houston, and lives in fear of being targeted again.
She is afraid to watch television in case a programme featuring violence is shown, even the news.
Judge Wiggs said Jarvis, who had never been in trouble with the police before, cannot be considered for release on licence for at least eight years.
Jarvis, who looked pale and thin, was given concurrent sentences of life for the three rapes, four years for robbery, five years for forcing his victim to engage in sexual activity without consent and 18 months for assault.
He received a two-year jail term for blackmail, three years for burglary and one year each for theft and attempted theft.
