PETER IRWIN OF RETFORD SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND BESTIALITY AT NOTTINGHAM CROWN COURT

In a serious case brought before Nottingham Crown Court, Peter Irwin, a 55-year-old man from Retford, faced multiple charges related to the possession and creation of highly illegal and disturbing material. The proceedings took place on Thursday, April 12, and culminated in a sentencing that reflects the gravity of his offenses.

Irwin was ordered to register as a sex offender and was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and monitor his behavior to protect the public. Additionally, he received a nine-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time immediately but must adhere to strict conditions during this period.

The charges against Irwin stem from an investigation that uncovered a vast collection of illicit images and videos. In March 2018, he admitted to possessing and creating thousands of indecent images of children, some of which were classified as the most severe Category A images. The authorities found that he had made 146 Category A images, 2,389 Category B images, and four Category C images, all depicting minors in various states of abuse.

Furthermore, Irwin was found in possession of nine extreme pornographic images involving bestiality, specifically a person engaging in sexual acts with dogs. The investigation also revealed that he possessed 658 prohibited images of children, which are considered highly illegal and dangerous under law.

The disturbing evidence was collected during a raid in Retford on November 28 of the previous year, where authorities discovered the extensive collection of illegal material. Irwin appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on March 16, where he pleaded guilty to all charges. The case was then adjourned until his next appearance for sentencing at Nottingham Crown Court on April 6, highlighting the seriousness with which the judicial system approaches such offenses.

Irwin’s case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material and to address the heinous crimes involving animals.
