Staining Sexual Abuser
In December 2012, a man named Peter Green, aged 64 and residing in Staining, was sentenced to prison for a series of serious sexual offenses committed over a span of several years. The court heard that Green engaged in a prolonged and calculated campaign of abuse targeting young boys in the Cumbria area, specifically in and around Staining.

Green systematically groomed his victims by introducing them to pornography and providing alcohol, actions that facilitated his predatory behavior. Over a period of six years, he targeted three boys, exploiting their trust and vulnerability. The Preston Crown Court was informed that Green’s offending dates back to the late 1980s and early 1990s, with the victims being under the age of 14 at the time of the assaults.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Green had meticulously planned his actions, often spending weeks or even months preparing before abusing one of his victims. One particular boy, who was deeply affected by the abuse, was described as a carefully chosen target by the court. Judge Robert Altham acknowledged the trauma inflicted on the victims and commended the bravery of the boy who came forward to report the abuse, stating that he felt an “entirely misplaced sense of guilt.”

Green, who lived at Old Mushroom Farm in Staining, pleaded guilty to 13 charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child. His lawyer, Paul Robinson, emphasized that Green had entered an early guilty plea and expressed sincere apologies to the victims. Robinson also highlighted that Green was a man of previously good character, which was taken into account during sentencing.

Judge Altham sentenced Green to a total of six and a half years in prison. In his remarks, the judge described the offenses as a “lengthy and predatory campaign of damaging offending,” noting that Green’s actions were aided by sophisticated grooming techniques. Furthermore, Green was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was prohibited from working with children. Additionally, he was placed under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing restrictions and monitoring to protect the community from further harm.
