Whelley Child Sexual Abuser
In September 2017, Peter Grant, a sex offender from Bolton Square, Whelley, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a young boy over a period of a decade. The victim, who was just five years old at the start of the abuse, only disclosed the crimes to his mother earlier this year, prompting the investigation.
The 66-year-old offender pleaded guilty to eight separate sexual assault counts, including four counts of assault by penetration. Bolton Crown Court heard that the now 15-year-old boy revealed that the abuse occurred during family visits to Grant’s home. The child, who cannot be named legally, described how Grant would often conceal his actions with a newspaper.
Grant was apprehended and formally charged earlier this year. During his court appearance on July 19, he admitted to two counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual assault.
The case was previously adjourned to allow for the preparation of reports. Ultimately, the court sentenced Grant to a total of 12 years imprisonment and imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order against him.
