PETER GRANT FROM ARMADALE SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO LABRADOR PUPPY ROLO IN ARMADALE

In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, Peter Grant, a resident of Mount Pleasant in Armadale, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a seven-month-old chocolate Labrador named Rolo.

The incident, which took place in August 2019, was captured on private CCTV footage, revealing Grant's violent treatment of the young dog.

According to reports, Grant was seen on the footage kicking Rolo with significant force and swinging him by the neck using his lead.

The disturbing images also show him dragging the frightened puppy by his neck and forcefully pushing his face against the ground.

These actions caused visible distress and pain to the animal, prompting concern among members of the public who witnessed the incident.

Scottish SPCA chief inspector Paul Anderson commented on the case, stating, “Members of the public witnessed Grant attacking Rolo.

Luckily this was caught on private CCTV and the footage was passed to us.

Once we identified Grant, we attended his address and seized Rolo.” Upon rescue, Rolo was found to be timid and wary of everyone he encountered, indicating the trauma he had endured.

A thorough veterinary assessment was conducted, and fortunately, the dog was found to have no lasting physical injuries from the attack.

The SPCA confirmed that Rolo was initially under the care of a relative while Grant was asked to look after him, as the owner was away on holiday.

After the investigation, Rolo was transferred to another relative until the owner returned home.

Currently, Rolo is back with his owner and is reported to be doing well.

The Scottish SPCA expressed satisfaction with the sentence handed down to Grant, emphasizing that the attack was unprovoked and unnecessary, causing significant pain and suffering to the puppy.

They hope that the punishment serves as a deterrent to prevent similar acts of cruelty in the future.

In court, Grant received a 35-hour community payback order and was banned from keeping animals for a period of one year.

The case has garnered attention in the local community and highlights ongoing concerns about animal welfare in the Armadale area.
