Westbury-on-Trym Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the local community of Bristol, Peter Field, a 51-year-old resident of Southmead Road in Westbury-on-Trym, was brought before the court following serious allegations related to the possession and distribution of indecent images involving children. The incident came to light after police officers from the Avon and Somerset Police child abuse unit executed a search warrant at his residence on October 23 of the previous year.

During the search, authorities confiscated several items, including his computer tower, which was later examined by forensic specialists. The investigation uncovered that Field had downloaded a total of 20 video clips depicting children engaged in sexual acts with adult men. These illicit files had been sourced from a single internet site and stored on his device over a period spanning from November 16, 2007, to October 23, 2008.

Following his arrest, Peter Field fully admitted to the charges against him, which included four counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing such images. His cooperation with law enforcement and his admission of guilt played a significant role in the subsequent legal proceedings.

At Bristol Crown Court, the prosecution, led by William Llewelyn, outlined the details of the case, emphasizing the severity of the material found on Field’s computer. The court was informed that the images and videos were downloaded from a specific online platform, highlighting the premeditated nature of his actions.

In his defense, Nicholas Arthur, representing Field, pointed out that his client had no prior criminal record. He also noted that Field accepted the recommendations made by the Probation Service, which influenced the sentencing decision. The judge, Simon Darwall-Smith, acknowledged the remorse shown by Field and his willingness to seek help, which contributed to the court’s decision.

Judge Darwall-Smith sentenced Peter Field to six months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years. Additionally, he was given a three-year community order that included supervision and mandatory participation in a sex offender treatment program. Field was also disqualified from working with children and young people and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of seven years.

The judge expressed some leniency, suggesting that Field’s remorse and lack of previous convictions warranted a sentence that avoided immediate imprisonment, though the gravity of the crimes was not understated. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the importance of vigilance within communities like Westbury-on-Trym and Bristol at large.
