OFFENDER JAILED FOR CHRISTMAS EVE MURDER IN HUNWICK
A man received a life sentence after pleading guilty to the murder of Lesley Caile, a mother of two and grandmother of three.
Her body was found at her home in North View, Hunwick, near Crook, on Christmas Eve.
Peter Edward Yorke, 46 years old and a resident of North View, was convicted in Newcastle Crown Court.
The judge ordered that Yorke serve at least 15 years before becoming eligible for parole.
Lesley Caile worked for Durham County Council’s children’s and young people’s services.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Edgar described her as "a professional lady who was a highly respected member of her local community and is dearly missed by those who knew her." According to court proceedings, Yorke was responsible for her death, which shocked and distressed the local area.
The sentencing included comments from the detective, who expressed hope that the punishment would give Yorke time to reflect on the harm caused, remarking: "I hope that the sentence given by the Judge today provides the time for Peter to reflect on the damage and hurt he has caused."
