JUDGE PRAISES VICTIMS AS CHILD ABUSER JAILED
Two children who suffered abuse by Paul Robson have been recognized for their bravery after the offender, aged 58 and from Wideopen near Newcastle, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
Robson coerced a young boy into committing a sexual act on him, and later, he targeted a teenage girl.
Both victims shared how deeply the abuse affected their lives.
The girl viewed Robson’s sentencing as a form of validation, particularly after her initial report in 2016 was overlooked.
Although Robson denied the charges, a jury convicted him of indecency with a child and sexual activity involving a person under 13.
The boy reported experiencing flashbacks, stress, anxiety, and depression, which greatly disrupted his life and relationships.
The girl described feeling devastated, disappointed, and dismissed by the legal system, losing trust and feeling ignored.
Her successful conviction provided validation, but her suffering continues.
Judge Gavin Doig praised the resilience and patience of the victims, emphasizing their vital role in achieving justice, and ordered Robson to remain on the sex offenders register for life.
