PAUL RAMELL FROM GARSTANG SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD ABUSE IN PREESALL AREA
In a case that spanned over three decades, a man from Garstang has been convicted and sentenced for heinous crimes committed against two young girls in the Preesall region during the 1980s. Paul Ramell, aged 66 and residing on Hill View Road in Garstang, was identified by law enforcement officers as a predatory individual responsible for a series of sexual offenses that remained hidden for many years. His victims, who are protected by legal restrictions from being publicly identified, courageously came forward to report the abuse, which had taken place in the Preesall area more than 30 years ago. The revelations led to a thorough investigation, culminating in Ramell’s arrest and subsequent charges. The details of the abuse are deeply disturbing; one of the young girls was raped while sitting on a beanbag, an act that left a lasting impact on her. The other victim was subjected to sexual abuse after being warned, “Don’t tell your mum,” a phrase that underscores the manipulative and coercive tactics Ramell used to silence his victims.
Throughout the period of abuse, both girls were subjected to inappropriate touching and were coerced into engaging in sexual acts with Ramell over several years. The long duration of these offenses highlights the predatory nature of Ramell’s actions and the profound betrayal of trust involved.
During a court hearing at Preston Crown Court, Ramell pleaded guilty to charges of rape and multiple counts of indecent assault. The presiding judge, Simon Newell, sentenced him to 20 years in prison, reflecting the severity of his crimes. Additionally, Ramell was given a one-year extended license period, which means he will remain under supervision in the community after his release. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions aimed at protecting the public from further harm.
