NOTTINGHAMSHIRE MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR ONLINE CHILD ABUSE AND VIRTUAL RAPE
A man named Paul O'Neill, aged 57 and a resident of Wollaton Vale, Nottinghamshire, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of directing child abuse online.He ordered the abuse in advance, giving explicit instructions on what he wanted to see, and paid men to carry out abuse against children as young as four in the Philippines.
O'Neill admitted to three counts of rape and 27 other sexual offences, and he was told he would serve a minimum of 12 years.
The CPS stated that this virtual rape case was believed to be the first of its kind.
Court proceedings revealed O'Neill used chat logs to instruct adult abusers in the Philippines and paid thousands of pounds over several years to satisfy perverse fetishes involving child abuse, virginity, and incest.
The court heard he was a married father who retired from teaching in August and was involved in the local church community and Sunday school.
Prosecutor James Varley described how O'Neill exploited the financial vulnerability of very young girls, some from families desperate for money for medical bills.
On one occasion, he offered to double his payment if the victim was just five years old.
Judge Gregory Dickinson condemned O'Neill’s actions as 'vile abuse,' emphasizing that he derived pleasure from child suffering and degradation, recorded some of these acts for repeated viewing, and warned he was dangerous to children and likely to offend again.
The defense argued that O'Neill had become addicted to commissioning such abuse and had become desensitized to the harm he caused, noting his online activities escalated quickly from curiosity to serious criminality.
O'Neill's offenses included child rape, conspiracy to rape, arranging child abuse and child prostitution, and possessing thousands of indecent images of children.
He was also found in possession of prohibited images.
The court highlighted the severity and unprecedented nature of this case involving online child exploitation.
