PAUL MARVEN FROM NEWQUAY AND NORTHALLERTON JAILED FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES IN NORTHALLERTON
In November 2014, a man named Paul Marven was sentenced to serve a significant prison term after being convicted of multiple historic sexual offences committed against a teenage girl in Northallerton.Marven, who was at the time working as a private gas engineer in the Northallerton and Darlington regions during the early 1990s, had established a seemingly friendly relationship with a young girl that eventually turned into a pattern of abuse spanning over two years.
Marven, aged 57 and residing in Lane, Newquay, Cornwall, was brought before Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday, 26 November 2014.
The court heard that he was guilty of six counts of indecent assault, with the offences having taken place between 1991 and 1994 in Northallerton.
The victim, now 36 years old, was in her early teens at the time of the abuse.
The case was prosecuted with the support of Detective Constable Steve Alderson, who is part of the Northallerton Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit.
In a statement, Detective Alderson expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse regardless of how much time has passed.
He stated, "Paul Marven probably thought he had gotten away with sexually abusing a vulnerable teenage girl, but thanks to the bravery of the victim, who found the courage to come forward after so many years, he has now been brought to justice." He further added, "I hope that she can take some satisfaction from the fact that Marven is now behind bars and can begin to rebuild her life.
This case underscores the fact that no matter how much time has elapsed, sexual offenders can still be identified and held accountable for their actions." Detective Alderson also urged other victims of sexual abuse to come forward, whether their experiences occurred recently or many years ago.
He assured that the police will handle each case with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity, providing all necessary support to those affected.
