PAUL LEWIS FROM LIBANUS AND TROEDYRHIW JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Libanus and Troedyrhiw, Paul Lewis, a man with a disturbing criminal record, has been sentenced to prison after police uncovered a vast collection of child sexual abuse images at his residence. The investigation revealed a deeply troubling catalogue of illegal material, leading to serious charges and a lengthy jail sentence.Paul Lewis, aged 51, who was previously residing on Finchley Close in Troedyrhiw but has since moved to Pen y fan Close in Libanus, Brecon, pleaded guilty to multiple counts related to the possession, creation, and distribution of indecent pseudo-images of children. Specifically, he admitted to 27 counts of making such images, seven counts of possessing them, four counts of distributing them, and posting an advertisement on the internet to share these illicit materials.
The case was heard at Merthyr Crown Court, where authorities detailed the extent of the evidence against Lewis. Police reports confirmed that at his address, they discovered a staggering total of 11,539 indecent images along with 208 movies depicting child abuse. Although these images were classified as pseudo-images—meaning computer-generated or altered images—Judge John Curran emphasized that there was no doubt in his mind that these images depicted real children, making the offense even more grave.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Lewis had a history of engaging with online child pornography communities. He was identified as a member of 738 chat rooms and groups, subscribed to multiple child exploitation websites, and actively sent images to chat rooms in exchange for other illicit images. An alarming message posted by Lewis, stating “I have pics to share,” was also presented as evidence, raising further concerns about his intentions and level of engagement with these illegal activities.
Prosecutor Thomas Crowther described the police operation that led to Lewis’s arrest, which took place at approximately 7:20 am on July 9 of the previous year. When confronted, Lewis responded emotionally, saying, “This is going to destroy me,” indicating the profound impact the investigation had on him. During questioning, Lewis admitted to finding the images “strange” and expressed a sense of desensitization, explaining that he had become numb to the material after spending long hours alone in his room viewing the images.
In addition to his jail sentence, Lewis was ordered to participate in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program. He was also mandated to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was prohibited from working with children in any capacity. The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing concern for community safety in the areas of Libanus and Troedyrhiw.
