PAUL JARVIS FROM RETFORD SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTING TO MEET 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL FOR SEX IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the community of Retford and the wider Nottinghamshire area, Paul Jarvis, a 65-year-old resident of Armstrong Road in Retford, has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of attempting to arrange a meeting with an 11-year-old girl for sexual activity. The incident came to light when Jarvis engaged in online conversations with what he believed was a young girl. Unbeknownst to him, he was actually communicating with specially trained officers from Nottinghamshire Police operating on an internet chat forum. Throughout these exchanges, Jarvis sent numerous messages via both online chat and text messages, discussing plans to meet the girl and describing what he intended to do to her. Despite his claims during police interviews that he would not have gone through with any physical meeting, his actions and communications indicated a clear intent.
On August 4, 2017, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Jarvis's residence in Retford. During the operation, he was arrested on suspicion of arranging or facilitating a child sex offence. Jarvis maintained his innocence during the subsequent trial at Nottingham Crown Court, where he denied the charges. However, the jury deliberated and reached a unanimous verdict of guilty on January 31.
Following his conviction, Jarvis was brought back to court on February 19 for sentencing. The judge sentenced him to 15 months in prison. In addition to his custodial sentence, he was subjected to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors, and was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of 10 years, requiring him to notify authorities of any changes to his personal details.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies in Nottinghamshire to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory individuals. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
