Derby Child Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the local community, Paul Grocott, a 28-year-old trainee teacher from Derby, was sentenced to a significant prison term after being found guilty of possessing and distributing child pornography. The incident came to light after investigations revealed that Grocott had accessed and downloaded highly disturbing images using research computers at Derby University.

During the court proceedings held at Derby Crown Court, it was disclosed that authorities discovered over 1,200 indecent images across multiple locations. These included Grocott’s residence on Upper Boundary Road in Derby, the university premises where he was studying, and his mother’s address in Stoke-on-Trent. The images were described by the court as being of “the most disgusting kind,” highlighting the severity of the material involved.

Grocott faced multiple charges, including 13 counts of making indecent photographs of children, one count of possession, and one count of distribution. He pleaded guilty to all charges, which led to his immediate sentencing. As part of the court’s ruling, Grocott will be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure that underscores the gravity of his crimes.

The court heard that Grocott had been viewing child pornography online for approximately six months. Evidence also indicated that he had shared some of this material with others, further aggravating his offense. The investigation was initiated after an IT support assistant at Derby University discovered that Grocott had accessed child pornographic websites using university computers. This discovery prompted a thorough investigation by authorities.

During police interviews, Grocott admitted to being in contact with an individual in America who was sending him explicit images. His defense lawyer, Sonal Ahya, acknowledged that Grocott was aware he would face imprisonment but argued that he deserved recognition for his prior good character and for his early guilty pleas. She also noted that Grocott’s aspirations of becoming a teacher had been effectively ended by his actions.

Judge Andrew Hamilton delivered a stern verdict, condemning Grocott for exploiting a public facility to indulge in his disturbing interests. The judge emphasized the heinous nature of the child pornography involved and sentenced Grocott to an extended prison term of three additional years beyond the initial sentence. The ruling serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences associated with such offenses and the ongoing efforts to protect children from exploitation.
