Dorchester Child Sexual Abuser
In September 2021, a man from Dorchester named Paul Greene found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation involving the possession of indecent images of children and inappropriate online communications. The case unfolded after police, acting on intelligence from the National Crime Agency, visited Greene’s residence on Eddison Avenue in Dorchester following a probe into the distribution and possession of child sex images.

During the police operation, officers seized Greene’s mobile device for forensic examination. The investigation revealed that Greene had been in possession of a significant number of illicit images, including 51 Category A images, 13 Category B images, and 34 Category C images. The most serious Category A images included videos depicting female children aged between six and 14 years old. These findings underscored the gravity of the offense, highlighting the exploitation of very young victims.

Prosecutor Robert Griffiths informed the court that Greene had admitted to possessing these images, which dated back to May 2018. The investigation also uncovered a disturbing pattern of sexualized communication with a girl, with exchanges dating from April 2017. During these exchanges, Greene and the girl, who was between 14 and 15 years old at the time, shared explicit images of themselves. The girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, recounted that Greene had claimed he was a 15-year-old boy, which was part of his attempt to conceal his true age and intentions.

Further evidence revealed that Greene had requested approximately 15 intimate images from the girl via Snapchat, and he also sent unsolicited sexual videos of himself. The girl’s victim personal statement described Greene as ‘rather controlling’ and accused him of trying to entrap her. She expressed feelings of betrayal, stating, “I trusted him. He thought it was an intimate relationship, but it was a friendship. When it came out, I couldn’t sleep, didn’t want to meet friends and I was hugely embarrassed.”

Greene’s criminal activities extended over a period from April 3, 2017, to April 27, 2020. He pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of Category A, B, and C images, as well as engaging in sexual communication with a minor. The court heard that Greene’s actions involved not only the possession of illicit images but also the grooming and manipulation of a young girl, which added to the seriousness of his offenses.

At a previous hearing in Weymouth, Greene admitted to possessing the images and engaging in sexual communication with a minor. The court was told that he had engaged in these activities while leading a lonely life, which may have contributed to his behavior. The victim’s statement highlighted the emotional and psychological harm caused by Greene’s actions, emphasizing the impact on her family and her own well-being.

In sentencing in September 2021, Judge Brian Forster described Greene’s conduct as ‘serious’ but opted against a custodial sentence, believing that Greene should be given the opportunity to benefit from support and rehabilitation. The judge emphasized the harm inflicted on the victims, noting that the images depicted children as young as six and that Greene had engaged in sexualized chats with a girl who was 14 or 15 at the time.

As part of his sentence, Greene was ordered to complete a three-year community order, which includes participation in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program and 20 days of rehabilitation activity. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for five years and issued a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration, restricting his internet use and contact with minors. Additionally, Greene was sentenced to perform 80 hours of unpaid work, pay an £85 victim surcharge, and have his seized mobile phone destroyed.

In August 2021, prior to the sentencing, Greene’s actions were further scrutinized when it was revealed that he had lied about his age to a teenage girl, asking her for explicit images and videos. He had claimed to be a 15-year-old from Dorchester, which he used as a pretext to engage in sexualized exchanges. Police had initially arrested Greene on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children, and subsequent forensic analysis confirmed the presence of nearly 100 illegal images, including 41 moving images, on his devices. The victims in these images ranged from six to 14 years old.

The police investigation also uncovered that Greene had engaged in sexualized chats with a girl, who was around 14 or 15 at the time. She reported that Greene had been quite controlling, demanding to know her whereabouts and questioning her communication habits. The girl’s family was deeply affected when the extent of Greene’s online misconduct was revealed, causing significant distress.

Greene, of Eddison Avenue in Dorchester, pleaded guilty to all charges and was scheduled to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court for sentencing on September 24. He was released on unconditional bail but was required to register at Weymouth Police Station within three days. The case highlighted the ongoing concerns about online grooming, exploitation, and the dangers posed by individuals who manipulate young people through digital platforms.
