PAUL GOSLING MAIDENBOWER FACEBOOK PERVERT ESCAPES JAIL IN SURREY
In September 2012, a disturbing case involving Paul Gosling, a 42-year-old man from Maidenbower, came to light after he was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate and sexually explicit communication with a minor. The incident was uncovered when a father discovered troubling messages on his 14-year-old son's Facebook account, which had been sent by Gosling. The messages contained explicit content and revealed Gosling's inappropriate intentions towards the young teenager.Gosling, residing on Bosham Road in Maidenbower, faced court proceedings after admitting to charges of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16. During the hearing at Guildford Crown Court, the judge learned that Gosling had taken the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, to a car park on multiple occasions, where he offered him alcohol and cigarettes. The court was also told that Gosling had sent the boy numerous messages, in which he expressed his sexual desire, stating he was 'horny' and inviting the teenager to join him 'naked in bed.'
The relationship between Gosling and the boy began in 2010 when they met at a sports club they both attended. The situation escalated in the summer of 2011, after Gosling drove the boy home following a canceled match. During this drive, Gosling asked the boy for his mobile number, which marked the beginning of a series of inappropriate communications. Prosecutor Caroline Carberry detailed that Gosling started sending messages daily, often from morning until night, claiming he was gay and requesting hugs. The messages grew increasingly explicit, with Gosling persistently asking the boy to meet up.
Between late summer and autumn of 2011, Gosling and the boy met in person three or four times. During these meetings, Gosling would take the boy to a car park, where he would offer cigarettes and alcohol. On one particular occasion, they spent three hours together in a car park, during which Gosling made comments suggesting the boy was gay because he was wearing pink boxer shorts. Gosling then asked the boy to kiss and hug him, but the boy, who clarified he was not gay, resisted these advances. Despite this, Gosling put his hand on the boy's inner thigh and began rubbing towards his groin area. The boy told police he pushed Gosling away and resisted further advances.
Gosling's inappropriate behavior continued as he asked the boy to pull down his trousers and show his genitals, even suggesting he would do the same. The boy refused outright. The situation escalated further when Gosling was arrested in December 2011 after the boy's father discovered the messages on his son's Facebook account and contacted authorities. The messages included explicit statements such as Gosling expressing his desire for the boy to join him in bed naked.
During police interviews, Gosling claimed that his messages were meant as jokes, though he acknowledged they were wholly inappropriate. The court also noted that Gosling had a separate charge of meeting a child under 16 following sexual grooming, which was ordered to lie on file. In sentencing, Judge Peter Moss described Gosling's messages as 'filthy and smutty,' emphasizing the severity of his misconduct.
As part of his sentence, Gosling was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years and was indefinitely disqualified from working with children. Additionally, he was required to pay costs amounting to £1,000. Despite the gravity of his actions, Gosling was spared immediate imprisonment and received a three-year community order, reflecting the court's consideration of various factors in his case.
