MAN JAILED FOR CONTROLLING AND VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR AGAINST PARTNER
Paul Garvey, aged 66 and from Halsenna, Holmrook, received a court sentence on 28th November at Carlisle Crown Court for several offences, including coercive and controlling behavior, two incidents of criminal damage, and burglary.The crimes, all directed at a single individual, involved Garvey exerting violence and control over her choices, such as dictating her clothing and restricting her relationships with family and friends.
During a holiday trip to Scotland, Garvey assaulted her and made a threat to kill her.
The victim decried the violence by fleeing from a moving vehicle and seeking assistance from a bystander.
The court proceedings also revealed that Garvey committed a break-in at the victim’s residence in Cumbria, using a crowbar to force entry.
Once inside, he caused extensive damage by smashing cupboards, breaking appliances and furniture, and vandalizing her car’s windscreen.
Additionally, he took a rock from her garden in order to damage the toilet, highlighting the extent of his destructive behavior.
Garvey was arrested shortly after.
A police search later recovered stolen items at his property in Holmrook.
In total, the victim’s home required extensive repairs costing £94,314, which included over £13,000 in damages to her employer’s property.
Garvey has now been issued a restraining order against the victim for 10 years.
