HULL MAN JAILED FOR LIFE IN VALENTINE'S DAY MURDER OF FIANCéE
A man who murdered his fiancee during a Valentine's weekend argument has been sentenced to life imprisonment at Hull Crown Court. The offender, Paul Dyson, 31, a wood machinist, had previously pleaded guilty to the murder of Joanne Nelson, 22, a Job Centre worker. Her body was discovered in woods near Malton, North Yorkshire, on March 24, after a large-scale police search. Police believe she was strangled at their Hull home on February 13 amid a disagreement about housework. Judge Tom Cracknell condemned Dyson, stating he had committed "an evil deed" and that his deception caused the family "grief and torment that is scarcely imaginable." Dyson had also made a TV appeal for help in finding his fiancée, which the judge called "breathtaking and nauseating hypocrisy." As Dyson was led away in handcuffs, members of the public shouted abuse at him. The judge ordered Dyson to serve at least 16 years before being considered for parole. The disappearance led to the largest police search in Humber history, involving hundreds of officers, volunteers, and even the army. Dyson has never fully explained the events of the weekend of Joanne Nelson's death. The Nelson family expressed their anguish, saying, "Her family meant the world to her and she meant everything to us. He has taken the most precious gift any parent can have and that's a child. So many lives have been destroyed by her death. We don't have lives anymore, but we do not feel sorry for ourselves. We feel sorry for Joanne and the life she will miss out on. We, her parents, her sisters, and all who loved her have been cheated." Dyson's former wife, Jenny Clark, 25, who was beaten by Dyson on her wedding night, welcomed his sentencing, stating: "I could not wait for him to go down." Dyson initially denied murder and admitted manslaughter at a previous hearing, but he changed his plea to guilty on Monday.
