Trent Vale Rapist
In September 2021, a significant case involving serious sexual offenses came to a conclusion at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where Paul Clutton, a 60-year-old resident of London Road, Trent Vale, was found guilty of multiple heinous crimes. Clutton, who had consistently denied all allegations, faced a jury that ultimately convicted him on six counts—three of rape and three of indecent assault.

Throughout the trial, the court heard detailed evidence of Clutton’s alleged offenses, which spanned over a decade, beginning in the early 1990s. Staffordshire Police confirmed that the crimes were committed over a lengthy period, highlighting the severity and the prolonged nature of the offending.

Judge Sally Hancox addressed Clutton directly after the verdict, describing his actions as “appalling sexual offences.” She emphasized the gravity of his crimes and made it clear that the only appropriate sentence was immediate custody. The judge stated, “The only type of sentence will be immediate custody. That will be measured in years. Because of the nature of your offending you will also be registered as a sex offender indefinitely.”

Following the sentencing remarks, Clutton was remanded into custody and will face sentencing on October 7. The case has drawn significant attention due to the serious nature of the offenses and the long duration over which they were committed, underscoring the importance of justice for the victims involved in this distressing case.
