Paul Bell, 38, engaged in multiple acts of violence against his victim at a residence in South Tyneside, which included slapping her across the face, causing her nose to bleed, and injuring her lip.
The victim responded by immediately contacting the police, resulting in officers arresting Bell at the scene.
In the previous year, Bell, from Newton Stret, Dunston, was formally charged in relation to the abuse incident.
During a court hearing in Newcastle Crown Court in May, Bell was convicted after trial on three counts of assault resulting in actual bodily harm, as well as charges of criminal damage, common assault, and coercive control.
He was also convicted of perverting the course of justice for orchestrating an associate to contact the victim from prison, warning her not to appear in court.
On July 21, Bell received a sentence of four years and ten months in prison and was issued a 15-year restraining order aimed at protecting the victim.
